Is Negotiation Within Schools Different From The Rest of Life?
From: Sara, Israel
Question: Are you aware of any literature or internet sites that deal with negotiation in the educational setting? I'm interested in reading about how principals can improve their negotiation skills in the school setting? The principles are obviously the same but I'm curious if specific material exists for negotiation in the educational setting.
Response: You are right, the principles of interest-based negotiation apply in
virtually all settings. We have developed role plays for teaching middle school kids -- but those focus on issues in their lives, rather than in academia.
A group called Educators for Social Responsibility has developed a
curriculum for teaching conflict resolution that is (was) used in the New
York City public schools. Again, my recollection is that their focus was
not on educational issues, but on real life.
Good luck with your researches,
Steve
